At Carbon we began offering refills in 2014 with a selection of local + Canadian made household cleaning products. Our popular Refillery has grown tremendously over the years and we now offer a wide variety of quality made, toxin-free + effective products for baby, body, face, hair, home + more!

Refilling creates the ideal opportunity to reduce waste by reusing + repurposing packaging you already have. There is also a cost savings by not purchasing new packaging + some brands even offer a "bulk" quantity discount which we are always happy to pass on.

HOW TO REFILL AT CARBON:

• Wash + Completely Dry Any Container You Wish To Use For Refilling - Any container you are happy to reuse works. When switching products, we strongly recommend that your container is thoroughly cleaned + air dried to avoid cross-contaminating product + avoid any possible sudsing/foaming during filling (old residual product may interfere with the efficacy + scent profile of the newly filled product). If you do not have any reusable containers we do offer a selection of new mason jars, glass jars + bottles, repurposed jars, shower friendly containers, and most of our refillable products are available in their original, labelled containers.
• Visit Our Full Service, In Store Refillery - Come learn about + smell the various refillable options we offer in store to help you select the most purposeful products for your use + needs. Please do not hesitate to let us know if there are any factors for consideration such as allergies or sensitivities, ingredient preferences, budget etc. Once your product(s) have been selected we will get to work refilling for you, giving you an opportunity to browse the rest of our beautiful boutique, visit any of our neighbours, or just stay and chat with us through the process:)
• How We Refill - We weigh your empty container(s) before we add any product. Once we have filled your container(s) with the desired amount of product, we weigh the container again to determine the actual weight of product added. We make note of the details and meet you at the front desk to process payment for your refill(s). All of our refillable products are sold by gram, ounce or each and you will only ever be charged for the quantity added. As a best practice, we do regularly quality test our scale for accuracy.

WHAT YOU WILL FIND IN OUR REFILLERY:

Please note that on occasion we are temporarily out-of-stock of some products. You are always welcome to call us in advance to confirm the products you are looking for are in stock.

REFILLING FACTS:

1. An added benefit of refilling is that you can try a smaller amount of product to experience just how it performs for you. As great as all of our refillable products are, we recognize that not every product is ideal for everyone. There is never any obligation to fill a container. Just let us know if you have a preferred fill point on your container and we will do our best to accommodate. Please bear in mind that we may not be able to achieve a specific weight, but we can get very close.
2. It is okay to bring in a cleaning product container that isn't empty when filling with the same product. Many of our clientele are repeat refillers + use the opportunity to top up their not quite empty dish soap, hand soap, laundry soap etc. when they know they will conveniently be in the area. Please just wipe clean the exterior of your container in advance.
3. We do not recommend refilling unclean containers of face + body care products. It is always best to wash + completely air dry these containers before refilling for sanitary purposes. Being more delicate product formulations for your skin you want every drop that is in your container to be as fresh as possible.
4. When you bring in dirty containers for us to refill it means we are stuck handling + cleaning up your sticky, gunky bottles + jars. This slows us down + potentially risks residual water contaminating freshly filled product. Water can be a breeding ground for bacteria. Any product we sell that has water as an ingredient commonly uses distilled or purified water + includes a natural preservative to prevent bacteria growth, but they are not specifically formulated to factor in tap water.
5. Damp or wet containers make it difficult to refill many of the soap based products as there is often a build-up of foam that develops when the product interacts with water. This prevents us from fully filling containers as it can take many minutes to hours for the foam to settle out. If you want full containers when you leave, bringing in dry containers is best. The All Purpose cleaners have a tendency to foam up regardless of the container condition, we will fill as full as we can, but please be mindful of this when you get home and do not believe your container was filled properly.
6. We refill on a first come, first serve basis. Please be mindful that when you stop in for refills we may be busy helping other clientele with refills or discussing any of the other products we stock, and we will get to you as soon as we can. Your patience and understanding is always very much appreciated. The weekends are the busiest for our Boutique + Refillery, but we can become quite busy on any day of the week at any time. Please be aware that if you are in a rush when you stop in, we may not be able to accommodate you as quickly as you wish for us to.
