At Carbon, we began offering refills in 2014 with a curated selection of locally and Canadian-made household cleaning products. Since then, our popular Refillery has grown tremendously. Today, we offer a wide variety of over 200 high-quality, low- or non-toxic, and effective products—for baby, body, face, hair, home, and more!

Refilling is a great way to reduce waste by reusing and repurposing packaging you already own. It also offers cost savings—there’s no need to buy new containers, and many brands provide bulk quantity discounts, which we’re always happy to pass along to you.

How To Refill At Carbon

• Wash & Completely Dry Any Container You Wish To Use For Refilling - You're welcome to refill using any clean, dry container you're comfortable reusing. If you're switching products, we strongly recommend washing and completely air-drying the container to prevent cross-contamination and avoid issues like unexpected foaming or changes in scent—leftover residue can affect the performance of your refill. If you don’t have a container on hand, we’ve got you covered with a selection of new mason jars, glass bottles, repurposed jars, shower-safe containers, and many refillable products also available in their original, labelled packaging.
• Visit Our Full Service, In Store Refillery -  Come discover and experience the wide range of refillable products we offer—smell, sample, and find the ones that best suit your needs. We’re always happy to help you choose the most purposeful options, and we welcome any considerations you may have, such as allergies, sensitivities, ingredient preferences, or budget. • How Our Refill Process Works - We begin by weighing your empty container(s) before adding any product. Once filled with your desired amount, we weigh the container again to determine the exact weight of the product added. All refillable items are sold by the gram, ounce, or each, and you’ll only be charged for the amount you take. We record the details and meet you at the front desk to complete your purchase. For accuracy and peace of mind, we regularly quality-test our scale as part of our best practices.

Refilling Notes

1. Try as Much—or as Little—as You Like - One of the great benefits of refilling is the flexibility to try a smaller amount and see how a product works for you. While we stand by the quality of all our refillable offerings, we understand that not every product is the perfect fit for everyone. There's absolutely no obligation to fill a container completely. Just let us know your preferred fill level, and we’ll do our best to match it. While we may not be able to hit an exact weight, we can usually get very close!

2. Refills Are First Come, First Served - We refill containers on a first come, first served basis. Please understand that when you visit, we may be busy assisting other customers or discussing our wide range of products, but we’ll get to you as soon as possible. Your patience and understanding mean a lot to us! Weekends tend to be our busiest time, though any day can get busy unexpectedly. If you’re in a rush, please keep in mind that we may not be able to accommodate you as quickly as you’d like.

3. Please Bring Clean, Dry Containers - Dirty or sticky containers slow down the refill process and risk contaminating your product. Residual tap water can especially compromise quality since it is the breeding ground for bacteria. Our products with water use only distilled or purified water and natural preservatives, but they’re not designed to handle tap water or leftover residue. To ensure the best refill experience, please wash and completely air-dry your containers before bringing them in.

4. Topping Up Cleaning Products is Totally Fine - It’s perfectly okay to bring in a container that isn’t completely empty—as long as you’re refilling it with the same product. Many of our regular customers top up items like dish soap, hand soap, or laundry detergent when they’re in the area. Just wipe the outside clean before bringing it in, and we’ll handle the rest!

5. Clean Containers Are a Must for Personal Care Refills - For hygiene and product integrity, we don’t recommend refilling unclean containers for face, hair, or body care products. These formulations are more delicate, and it’s always best to thoroughly wash and fully air-dry your containers before refilling. This helps prevent contamination and ensures that your fresh refill isn’t affected by any leftover product, preserving both performance and scent.

6. Why Dry Containers Work Best for Refills - Damp or wet containers often cause soap-based products to foam during refilling. This foam buildup can take minutes—or even hours—to settle, preventing us from filling containers completely. To ensure your containers are filled to the top, please bring them fully dry. Keep in mind that some products, like the All-Purpose Cleaners, tend to foam regardless of container condition. We’ll fill these as much as possible, but when you get home, please be aware that some foam may remain and the container might not feel completely full.
