Natural rubber is an excellent core support for mattresses. Extremely durable, flexible and resilient, natural rubber is also chosen for its inherent healthiness. Rubber is naturally anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, it is mold-free and it repels dust and dust mites, making it a truly hypo-allergenic sleeping experience for baby.
Rubber is famous for its thermo-regulating properties. With the correct slat foundation this mattress is nice and cool in summer, and keeps baby warm in winter.
Inside the ultra-soft carded organic cotton damask shell are layers of organic wool that act as a natural dust-mite repellent and flame retardant. 52” long x 28” wide.

about natural rubber

All rubber used for Carbon Environmental mattresses and accessories (pillows, mattress toppers and overlays) is free of synthetic chemicals in all phases of its growth, collection, manufacture and shipping.

Natural rubber is the most durable elastic material available. A natural rubber foam core is ideal for mattresses. It is flexible yet stable, it is absorbent, resilient and provides excellent heat and moisture regulation and air circulation. Natural rubber has other attributes important in mattress manufacture. Rubber sap naturally contains an antibacterial substance that is a natural dust-mite repellant. Due to this, and other properties, natural rubber is considered the most hypo-allergenic mattress substance on the planet.

An important element of rubber manufacture is to process the Hevea milk quickly. For this reason, the rubber used for Carbon Environmental’s mattresses is done close to the plantation before the rubber can destabilize. Destabilization can also be avoided by the addition of chemicals, but since we desire natural purity, these chemicals are not added. For our product, the milk is harvested in the morning and by afternoon it is being molded into sheets that are shipped to Canada. The omission of this chemical process is one of the reasons our rubber tests so pure in independent test chamber studies.

Natural rubber is the milk or sap tapped from Hevea Brasiliensis – the common rubber tree. This tree grows on Malaysian plantations especially selected for their high quality product. This grove of trees is located in an area that produces the purest rubber for mattress use.

environmental standards
The rubber for our mattresses is tested by the Eco Institut and QUL, two certifying bodies that hold the most important and credible certifications for natural rubber.
Natural rubber is a renewable resource. It is the milk or sap tapped from the Hevea Brasiliensis – the common rubber tree – grown on Malaysian plantations especially selected for their high quality product. The tree is not damaged in any way during the tapping process.
Because the product is manufactured where the sap is harvested, the local economy is sustained and jobs are provided, all without depleting the natural resources of the country of origin.
At the end of the mattress life-cycle, the rubber breaks down because it is a natural, biodegradable substance.

about our organic cotton

All cotton used for Carbon Environmental mattresses and accessories (pillows, comforters, mattress protectors and overlays) are made from pure, organically grown and harvested cotton.

Inorganic conventional cotton is saturated with pesticides, herbicides and chemicals absorbed from modern fertilizers in the soil. Machine picked, it is full of impurities, oil, leaves and dirt. Conversely, organic cotton is grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers to control plant growth or fight pests. No defoliating synthetic chemicals are used to strip the leaves in preparation for the harvest or during the manufacturing process.
All the cotton used in our batting, filling and fabrics is clean, pure, organic product. It is woven to very high standards into the finest, softest fabrics, in Germany and Switzerland.

In addition to organic farming methods, hand-picking ensures that it is the cleanest, purest, most resilient cotton fiber available.
Our organic cotton has not been treated with any chemical sprays or finishes at any stage of its growth, harvesting, shipping or manufacture.

The cotton is cultivated and hand-picked in the traditional co-operative manner that has been followed for centuries in the Cañete and Chincha valleys high in the Peruvian Andes.

environmental standards
The Global Organic Textile Institute (GOTS) has developed a unified standard which is acceptable in all major markets of the world. The Control Union maintains has certified our organic cotton. Their stamp of approval is not only a guarantee of organic standards, but also that social rights are observed in the production of our cotton.

about organic wool

All wool fillings and batting for Carbon Environmental’s mattresses and accessories (pillows, comforters, mattress protectors and overlays) are 100% organic.

The pure wool used in the quilting process is shorn from sheep that have grazed only in pastures free from pesticides and herbicides. The wool is washed without detergents, chemicals, chlorine or bleach – just hot water and soap. It is processed without the use of oils or bonding agents. The wool fibre produced retains 4 - 6% lanolin oil, a completely natural dust-mite repellant.
Wool is the natural flame retardant used in our mattresses. They meet all governmental standards.

With the craftsmanship born of centuries of experience, the company processes the raw fleece into a high quality end-product through careful sorting, washing and drying – a 100% organic process that does not involve the use of any chemicals or bleach.
This wool is very carefully monitored. The use of plastic, baling twine, mothballs or strong chemicals are not permitted. Only vegetable based soaps and agents are used for washing, lubrication and static control.

Our wool comes from Texel Island, an Island off the coast of the Netherlands.

environmental standards
All the wool used to manufacture our batting is certified to OKO-TEX 100 through a leading German organic certification organization.
The sheep are bred carefully and live a stress-free life. In winter, they live in a well-ventilated, climate-controlled barn with clean floors, fresh, dry bedding, a non-rationed food supply and a daily check for the health and wellness of each animal. During the summer months the sheep graze on land that has not been used for agriculture for 20 years, so it is protected from any chemicals, including pesticides and fertilizers.
